This work investigates magnetic properties of Fe(II) and Co(II) coordination compounds of general formula [M(fpo)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2 (fpo = 2‐ (furan-2-yl) ‐5‐ (pyridin-2-yl) - 1,3,4 ‐ oxadiazole; M = Fe (II) (1), Co (II) (2)) and the influence of the second coordination sphere on their magnetic properties. Compound 1 is in the high-spin state over the entire temperature range measured. In case of 2, the behavior of a field-induced single-molecule magnet with an effective energy barrier Ueff = 65.3 K was found. Theoretical calculations also show a significant influence of the second coordination sphere on the magnetic behavior of both compounds.
